Welcome to 2019! As we turn the page on another calendar year, I look back with pride on all we have accomplished together over the last twelve months and ahead with true excitement to all that is ahead of us.
Societies 2.0 is just over a year old and I can tell you with confidence that we have come a long way, as outlined in the Roadmap, though the journey has just begun.
I am encouraged by the many conversations I have had with society leaders and the stories conveyed to me by the wider Society Relations team who interact with all of you day-to-day. You have incorporated our joint vision and objectives into your planning, taken up the importance of solid governance models and training, promoted our global brand through local brand activation (if you haven’t, contact your Society Relations Manager now!), and consistently innovated new ways to engage and educate our membership and advance our ethical standards.
The global Society Leadership Conference in London, in May 2019, will be a key milestone at which we will discuss and align around updated governance principles and share the best of society examples of Societies 2.0 in action from around the globe. Look for regular updates on our progress across all of the Societies 2.0 components on Connexions.
Speaking of “the best”, the Society Awards Programme has been refreshed and is launching now. Key changes to the program have been designed to better align the program with our strategy, simplify the application and judging processes, and ensure that the best ideas and examples from the global society network are highlighted and leveraged. Please take a moment to review the awards summary and nominate your best ideas and deserving volunteers.
I am also pleased to announce that we will be expanding the successful Society Law Firm program that was piloted in 2018. The program connects CFA Societies with a global law firm, Latham &Watkins, to resolve simple society legal issues. If you have a legal issue and want to find out if it is appropriate for the program, please contact your Society Relations Manager.
Thanks to feedback and collaboration from CFA Societies, society technology has evolved over the last year, and there are a number of initiatives underway to further improve your technology experience. And congratulations to all 152 societies – you have all transitioned your data to the new Society Technology Platform! No small feat but an important one, as we move toward an integrated technology platform that best serves our growing global network.
Let me also highlight some member enhancements that require your attention. The May 2019 member proxy vote will ask members to approve an update to the CFA charterholder work experience requirement calculations. We are pleased to offer future candidates the opportunity to have part-time work qualify toward accumulation of their requirements, a nod toward the needs of our diverse community and today’s modern work environments. This change will maintain the rigorous experience requirements of the current standards but provide more flexibility to candidates.
Finally, we will soon ask members to update their communications preferences. The enhanced Communications Preference Center has been designed with members’ needs in mind and will allow us to tailor communications to individual preferences.
On behalf of all of my CFA Institute colleagues, many best wishes for your best year yet, both individually and collectively. It is an honor to support the work that you do.
