We are excited to announce that we are adding 20 new testing locations across APAC and EMEA for CFA exams, beginning with the February and May 2023 window, allowing us to serve more candidates in more markets.
This expansion means that candidates in certain locations—for example, East Africa—will no longer be required to cross international borders in order to sit for the CFA exams.
Earlier this year, the Exam Administration and Security team at CFA Institute solicited requests from our regional, Society Relations, and Institutional Relations teams to determine where we should add new test centers that administer the CFA exam.
Exam Admin compiled all requests and met with internal stakeholders to prioritize these suggested locations. Each location was then assessed to determine any legal, regulatory, tax, and operational risks.
We have since worked with British Council and Prometric to determine a timeline for expanding to these locations. We are excited to share that
- scheduling in the Indian and African markets will begin in May for the February 2023 administration
- scheduling in the remaining markets will begin in September for the May 2023 administration.
Refer to the tables below for a list of the new locations.
Frequently asked questions:
How can candidates secure the test center location they prefer?
- Encourage candidates to schedule their exam appointment promptly. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- For optimal results, candidates should search by city and country.
- Encourage candidates to expand the dates they are looking to test. The most popular testing days are Saturday and Sunday, followed closely by the last few days of the testing window, regardless of the day of the week. Candidates seeking a specific test center location should search for appointments throughout the entire testing window.
- Some cities fill quickly. When this happens, additional appointments will be added. Encourage candidates who are firm on their choice of location to check back within 2–3 days.
How can candidates secure the time and date they prefer?
Encourage candidates to be open to sitting whenever there is an available appointment. We will not be able to accommodate everyone on their preferred testing date. However, the following tips may help candidates successfully schedule their appointments:
- Encourage candidates to schedule their exam appointment promptly. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Encourage candidates not to limit their date range search to just a few days. Instead, they should select the entire exam window.
- Encourage candidates to stick with their selection. Changing their appointment times or dates may make it difficult for other candidates to finalize their appointments.
Where can a list of testing facilities and their addresses be found?
Because exact testing facilities can change as a result of COVID restrictions, contract terminations, security concerns, and myriad other factors, we cannot provide a static list of testing facilities.
Exact test center addresses will be only be provided directly to candidates through the exam appointment scheduling tool.
Prometric does offer a test center locator tool. However, because it is not client- or candidate-specific, it does not return all the locations and appointment times available to CFA exam candidates. It can be used as a general guide for test center availability. To use:
- Visit Prometric’s test center locator tool.
- Enter an address, city, or postal code and the desired testing window dates.
- The tool will return the five nearest test locations within a 200-mile radius.
Test center options with confirmed available seating will be presented to candidates during the scheduling process.
How do you determine whether—and where—a new test center will be added?
Test center locations are reviewed annually.
New test center locations are identified based on the mission of CFA Institute, candidate demand, and the needs of the regions.
Societies can share their test center requests with their SRM. Parties should not reach out to Prometric directly to inquire about opening a test center in new locations.
Once they open, will these added test locations host exams for every subsequent administration of the CFA exam?
We have planned for these test centers to be open for all future administrations. Each year we will review test center appointments to make sure we are serving candidates properly. Any necessary changes will be assessed at that time.
