CFA Institute has been named “Industry Association of the Year” by Regulation Asia in their 2020 Awards for Excellence! The award recognizes our work this year across Asia Pacific in developing best practice and industry standards, educating and informing industry professionals, connecting the community through events and regular dialogue, and promoting harmonization of regulatory requirements.
This is all made possible through our strong partnerships with our CFA Society® network across APAC and around the world. Thank you to all our CFA® charterholders, local societies, and volunteers for your support!
Highlights from our APAC Advocacy, Standards, and Regulatory Relations work this year that contributed to this Award win include:
Developing research to drive the direction of the industry and engage with regulators as a source of independent information and industry knowledge:
- Nine APAC advocacy and research reports were published, including actionable policy and industry recommendations for best practices across topics relating to ESG, stewardship, corporate governance, and industry trust.
- Fifteen APAC regulatory consultation responses were submitted, in conjunction with our network of societies, to combine a global view of best practice with local insight and recommendations.
- CFA Institute was invited to join 3 APAC regulatory advisory bodies/councils to provide input via direct seats at the table.
We conducted outreach and engagement with 48 different APAC regulatory/ policymaking organisations over the past year on topics relating to advocacy, market best practice and skills/industry professionalism.
Creating and promoting industry standards to promote harmonization and investor protection:
- The GIPS® standards were adopted and promoted by some notable APAC asset owners and managers in 2020, including AIA Group, one of the region’s largest insurers, driving consistency in fund performance reporting across the region to improve information for investors.
- The first draft of a new CFA Institute standard was released to help harmonize disclosures around ESG features of investment products, supported by engagement with investment professionals across the APAC region to garner feedback and input.
Connecting the investment community to support cross-border knowledge sharing and continued professional excellence:
CFA Institute’s pivot to digital and virtual models helped support our members and the industry despite the disruptions of COVID-19:
- ARX hosted 3,500 pieces of content and produced 77 webinars in the past year, often bringing together experts from different APAC markets or providing insight into regional similarities and differences.
- China Live was launched as a local language platform to support the interests and needs of the growing China investment management community.
- The timetable for computer-based testing was accelerated for all Levels of the CFA exam, with the addition of more frequent exam cycles to offer maximum flexibility for those following the CFA Program to build their knowledge of investing and ethical best practices.
We look forward to continuing our work in Advocacy, Standards, and Regulator Relations across APAC and around the world in 2021, in close partnership with the CFA Society network.
