Professional Committees Support Launch of CPD Events
CFA Society Beijing has established several professional committees to support the launch of CPD events and initiatives in specific areas, including Equity Investment, Fintech, and Risk control. The Society is actively building up volunteer groups to support the respective professional committees in project execution.
In March, the Fintech Committee and Equity Investment Committee successfully organized two seminars and one forum:
- On 11 March, the Equity Investment Committee organized a senior member gathering and discussion on Real Estate property investment.
- On 15 March, the Society invited the previous CEO of Goldman Sachs, now the CEO of Beijing’s top intelligence research enterprise, to give a speech to its members and local Fintech professionals. The event was a huge success and attracted over a hundred participants.
- On 30 March, the Society partnered with Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) and an institutional partner, Industrial Securities, to launch the “China Quantitative and Index Investment Forum” for the first quarter of 2019. CFA Society Beijing invited five national top-tier Quantitative Professionals and Professors to give a speech and the event attracted over 200 participants. Feedback was very positive - one meeting attendee from REFINITIVE said: “Full of knowledge and real stuff, looking forward to more events like this being organised.”
Increasing Career Development Opportunities
The Internal Referral Program has been initiated by the Career Development Department at CFA Beijing Society. The program aims to provide more career development opportunities for members and strengthen relationships with employers and job seekers.
Many top employers are based in Beijing and have internal recommendation mechanisms for recruiting talent. The Internal Referral Program encourages CFA charterholders at these institutions to promote the value of the CFA charter and act as referees for recent graduates.
The Internal Referral Program helps employers find suitable candidates from CFA Society Beijing members (at a low cost); referees benefit by recommending quality candidates to institutions; and candidates obtain career development opportunities. The program helps to match job opportunities with the job demands of CFA Society Beijing members and ultimately hopes that HR departments will prioritise the recruitment of CFA charterholders.
A working group has been established and a letter to help recruit CFA charterholders to act as “job hunters” in their corporations has been published on the social media platform, Wechat. CFA Society Beijing has started to set up a file of referrals and Wechat group of referrals.
