CFA Society Finland felt strongly about organising its Forecast Dinner this year, despite the pandemic restricting in-person events. The local society, therefore, brought together international guests and society members virtually and gifted each participant a dinner, delivered by Wolt, to celebrate the event.
Board president Antti Raappana, CFA, and Niina Arkko, CFA, acted as the hosts for the evening. With thirty members in attendance, the event featured a speech and Q&A session with the Governor of Estonian Central Bank, Madis Müller, CFA, on "The Road to Recovery and the Role of Central Banks". In addition, Mr. Salman Ahmed, PhD, Global Head of Macro and SAA, Fidelity International, spoke to attendees on “Central Banks and Climate Change”.
CFA Society Finland encouraged everyone to keep their cameras on to make the event feel more communal and personal. During the evening, the group was seperated into smaller breakout rooms to allow discussion on the presentations and encourage the exchange of thoughts between old and new acquaintances. The organizers had assigned participants into these groups ahead of the event and the breakout rooms were quite successul in imitating dinner table discussions.
Antti Raappana, CFA, President, CFA Society Finland, said: “As one of our flagship events, we were delighted to be able to host the Forecast Dinner virtually. We tried to replicate the in-person format and engage participants in the topical subjects discussed by high-profile speakers. Even though we were not together at tables, the break-out rooms and dinner gave a personal touch!”
The local society also announced its Volunteer of the Year, Lili Kirikal, CFA, and the results from last year’s forecasting, which was won by Kati Eriksson, CFA. As the 2020 Forecast Dinner was held before the global pandemic hit, it was particularly interesting to see the outcomes of forecasts. Kati managed to foresee how asset markets would fluctuate and finish at the end of the turbulent year. Huge congratulations to Lili and Kati for winning these awards!
