Over 500 San Francisco Bay Area investment professionals and students raised a glass to the vibrant history of both CFA Society San Francisco and the greater Bay Area at an Annual Investment Dinner in January 2019.
Celebrating the 90th anniversary of CFA Society San Francisco, attendees ranged in age from 17 to 90 years old and spanned multiple sectors of the investment industry. Participants discussed trending investment topics, engaged with the keynote speaker, Dr. Philip Tetlock, on the science of forecasting, and celebrated the longevity of their local CFA Society.
The Annual Investment Dinner was the centerpiece of a year-long awareness campaign around this milestone anniversary. Uniting the campaign is a unique, Bay-area inspired look and feel that Lindsey Helman, Marketing Communications Manager, CFA Society San Francisco, developed with agency partners through Society Brand Activation.
The campaign celebrates 90 years of CFA Society San Francisco as “The bedrock of the Bay Area’s financial community.” Inspired by the intertwined histories of CFA Society San Francisco, the Bay Area, and the larger financial community, the society built a 19-panel, large-scale timeline to line the Hall of Mirrors at host Westin St. Francis hotel. As attendees approached the main conference room, they tracked various milestones of those intertwined histories, from the 1929 founding of CFA Society San Francisco – originally Securities Analysts of San Francisco – to today.
CFA Society San Francisco also infused campaign art into social posts, a web banner, email banners, and an onsite pull-up banner, highlighting the colorful interpretation of the Bay Area skyline. Even reworking the language on their website’s “Our History” page to integrate it more fully with the anniversary campaign.
Also debuting at the Annual Dinner was a two-minute-long video highlighting the rich visual history of the Bay Area, the Society, CFA charterholders, the CFA® brand, and the influential role members play in the financial industry. CFA Society San Francisco plans on showcasing the video at future events as well.
“At 90 years old, CFA Society San Francisco is the second oldest and seventh largest CFA Society,” says Anne O’Brien, Executive Director, CFA Society San Francisco. “Over these nine decades, the society and its members have been at the forefront of innovation in the investment industry. We see the anniversary campaign as an opportunity to build awareness of this longevity, while solidifying our position as a forward-looking organization."
