CFA Institute launched the 2021 Refresher Readings on a new online learning platform where members get a first look at changes made to the CFA Program. CFA Society South Africa, in collaboration with Edge FIT (Finance and Investment Training), decided to bring the digital reading material to life and host CFA Program Refresher webinar sessions.
CFA Society South Africa selected a variety of topics, based on its member’s needs, for the series and worked with Edge FIT, a member of the CFA Institute Approved Prep Provider Program, to deliver these virtually.
CFA Program Refresher Webinar Series
CFA Society South Africa hosted this webinar series fortnightly, over two months. The events were open to all members to view and the recordings made available on its channel on Asset TV S.A.
Russell Jude, CFA, a team leader at Edge FIT, presented the content, providing interesting case studies and an interactive Q&A. Topics he focused on were: Private Equity Investments, Pricing and Valuation of Forward Commitments, Private Wealth Management, and Backtesting & Simulation (overview and case study).
The CFA Program Refresher webinar series has enabled CFA Society South Africa to:
- Reach more members and provide member value to CFA charterholders and members in SADC region.
- Provide mandatory Continued Professional Development points for CFA charterholders and members.
- Create recorded content on its dedicated channel on Asset TV S.A., available to view on demand.
- Enhance the Programme events calendar, including refresher webinars throughout the year.
Member Engagement
“The global Covid pandemic brought many challenges to us as a society, including the inability to host in-person member events. As program events form a core part of our value proposition (it allows members to earn CPD points towards our local regulatory requirements for continuous learning), we needed to find a suitable replacement to our regular in-person events. The virtual environment, with online access to the facilitated Refresher Readings sessions, fit the bill perfectly. It also allowed us to provide member value to those who live and work outside the main finance centres in South Africa (Johannesburg and Cape Town), including our members from the SADC (Southern African Development Community) region,” said Nerina Visser, CFA, President, CFA Society South Africa.
