Over the last decade, CFA Society Sri Lanka has strengthened its relationship with the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) to help pave the way for developing the capital market in Sri Lanka on a broader scale.
The Society hosted a CSE market opening ceremony on 31 July 2019, where Paul Smith, CFA, president and CEO of CFA Institute at the time, rang the ceremonial bell to open trading and recognised several key advocacy and outreach initiatives undertaken by CFA Society Sri Lanka.
The CSE Chairman, Ray Abeywardena, noted that the CSE and Society have maintained a close relationship, as both organisations share the common interest of promoting the growth and well-being of the Sri Lankan capital market. The CSE has been the main sponsor for CFA Society Sri Lanka for many years, including the sponsor for the local CFA Institute Research Challenge.
Sahan Jayasooriya, co-chair of CE Events, CFA Society Sri Lanka, said: “The event was a great success and helped to strengthen the relationship we have built with the CSE over the last 10 years. We also held initial discussions about producing a joint research white paper and the CSE is looking to leverage existing CFA Institute investor education and financial literacy content.”
By partnering with the CSE, the Society hopes to foster financial literacy, advocacy for investor rights and promote best practices in equity research and analysis in Sri Lanka.
