At the end of January, a group of colleagues and society leaders had the opportunity to wish Emily Dunbar a fond farewell in London and thank her for years of service to the CFA Society® partnership. She sends her best wishes to all of you as we build on the foundations she helped put in place and seize the opportunities ahead.

Emily promoted a culture of collaboration which has become core to our relationship and success. In that vein, the annual XL Society strategy meeting took place on 31 January. The meeting provided valuable input from societies and is a core component of our annual planning cycle.
We were fortunate to have both Diane Nordin, CFA, chair of the CFA Institute Board of Governors, and Marg Franklin, CFA, our new CEO and president, with us to describe the challenges facing our industry and the opportunities CFA Institute has to help meet them. The organization will be undertaking a strategy refresh in the coming months, with a draft of the new three-year strategy due to the Board of Governors in May.
Our mission and core strategic pillars won’t change, but we will focus on further building our relevance and influence on matters impacting our CFA charterholders, candidates, and investors at large. We will seek wider society input and share progress along the way.

Coronavirus, Global SLC and APAC Research Challenge
At CFA Institute, the health and well-being of our employees and affiliates is our top priority. We are closely monitoring the current and potential effects of the Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak and implementing precautionary measures across all our office facilities and event sites. With increasing restrictions to travel mobility and to ensure the well-being of our employees and affiliates, we have decided to cancel the 2020 Global Society Leadership Conference (SLC), scheduled for 14–16 May in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, and the in-person Regional Finals for the Asia-Pacific Research Challenge, scheduled for 18–19 March in Seoul, South Korea.

Professional Learning Advisory Council
In order to facilitate our partnership with the CFA Society® network and create a compelling learning experience, we created the Professional Learning Advisory Council (previously titled CPD Design Council). In 2020, the council will have a more detailed focus on learning platform capabilities and content strategies that allow members to learn what they want, when they want, and how they want.
