CFA Society Malaysia recently hosted a webinar to guide charter pendings and CFA Program Level III candidates through their journey to earning the CFA charter. The local society also used this as an opportunity to share recent updates to the work experience requirements needed to apply for the CFA charter.
CFA Society Malaysia partnered with top local employers, who employ the charter pendings and candidates, to enhance the outreach to these individuals. This allowed the local society to strengthen its relationships with the employers and provide the necessary support to the individuals completing their CFA charter application. The webinar was attended by almost 60 charter pendings and Level III CFA Program candidates, and a few Human Resource representatives from top local employers.
The webinar explained the steps that need to be taken to becoming a CFA charterholder, as well as the global and local membership benefits of being a charterholder. Two new CFA charterholders also shared their perspectives and experiences and highlighted the difference in their career progression upon attaining the charter.
The webinar served as a platform to ensure that charter pendings were updated on the latest work experience requirements, which have changed from four years of professional work experience to 4,000 hours of qualified work experience to be completed in a minimum of 36 months. Participants also received guidance on writing qualifying work experience. Upon the completion of the webinar, CFA Society Malaysia continued to engage with the individuals and employers, to facilitate their charter application.
Prior to the webinar, CFA Society Malaysia had around 340 charter pendings. The society is delighted that to-date (Sept 2020), 27 charter pendings have applied for their charter, with 24 of them successfully attaining the CFA charter and three awaiting references. With a conversion rate close to 10%, CFA Society Malaysia is looking forward to hosting similar sessions next year to continuously engage and provide the required assistance.
Caroline Ng, Executive Director of CFA Society Malaysia said: “This was a great opportunity for CFA Society Malaysia to closely support charter pendings to complete their CFA charter journey and advance professionalism in the finance and investment industry”
