The Global SLC marks an exciting and important milestone in our Societies 2.0 journey.
We are introducing a revised Principles of Partnership and Operating Framework, last updated in 2012, to better reflect the current relationship between CFA Institute and Member Societies, and how we will work together under Societies 2.0. Developed in close collaboration with society leaders and PCR’s, these foundational governance documents are grounded in our mission, vision, and our commitment to collaborate with each other to achieve our shared goals.

The new Principles of Partnership and Operating Framework will be discussed at the Presidents Council meeting on Saturday, 11 May, where society presidents will be asked to approve the documents and move them forward for approval and adoption by the CFA Institute Board of Governors.
Take a moment to read through the Principles. We genuinely believe they reflect the collective wisdom of this diverse global network of volunteers and professionals working to improve the investment management profession for our members and society. Also take a few minutes to explore the interactive PDF of the new Operating Framework! It is designed to be a digital user experience that will evolve over time and will illustrate for both society leaders and CFA Institute how we will work together across the many activities and objectives we share.
Here are some key news items and reminders:
- The Annual Meeting of the Presidents Council will be held in conjunction with the Global SLC on Saturday, May 11, 8am-10:30am. Presidents and chairs of CFA Societies are members of the Presidents Council and will be permitted to attend the Executive Session at 8am. All society staff can attend from 9am-10:30am.
- The 2019 Society Satisfaction Survey will open just after the SLC and Annual Conference. We have shortened and streamlined the annual survey to capture key satisfaction metrics and to assess our progress on Societies 2.0 objectives. Please review the PDF version of the survey ahead of the SLC and confer with your boards to provide a collective response from your Society when the survey opens in mid-May.
- Renewals: A reminder that the global member renewal campaign runs from May through September. Take a look at the CFA Society Member Renewal Toolkit, which provides key dates, messaging and the Society assets.
- GDPR: To ensure Society websites that CFA Institute hosts are compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we are implementing a pop-up that will allow users to either opt-in or opt-out of tracking. Read more on how we will be supporting this update.
- Global SLC Live on Connexions! Make sure you visit Connexions throughout the Global SLC to find out what is being discussed, see live images and videos from the conference, and follow the conversation on social media.
A heartfelt congratulations to the Ateneo de Manila University team for being named Global Champion of the 13th Annual CFA Institute Research Challenge in New York this month. It was such a pleasure to see all the teams in action. Well done to all participants and volunteers from this year’s competition. As always, it has been a great and invaluable experience for all those involved.
As you can see, a lot of good progress is being made on many fronts. We recognize this means a lot is being asked of all of you. Thank you sincerely for your continued passion and commitment to supporting the work we are doing together to make Societies 2.0 a reality. I look forward to seeing many of you in London!
As a reminder, the new membership transactions system was launched during a relatively quiet time in February 2019. Since then, we have been working and testing extensively to ensure a smooth renewal process for members who will experience the enhanced process for the first time. We will be taking every precaution to spread out the volume, as we anticipate an unprecedented number of users in the system. Should any issues come to light during the renewal period, we ask for your understanding and partnership as we resolve these anomalies.
