CFA Institute is looking to create a series of videos that will provide career inspiration and advice for students and graduates who are studying for, or considering studying for, the CFA Program. We want you to participate!
The series will feature CFA charterholders from across the globe and from different industries in order to demonstrate the breadth of opportunities available for charterholders and ensure different communities and industries are represented. We have developed several profiles that capture the types of experiences we are looking for.
Take a look at the profiles listed below, and if they sound like you or someone you know, please contact Lorraine Cushnie, Senior Manager, Digital Content and Content Marketing at lorraine.cushnie@cfainstitute.org with the following information:
- Name
- Job title and company
- Location
- The profile number(s) you match with
- Anything you would like to highlight about your career or experiences
We invite you to pass this opportunity along to your society members to help us in our search for a wide swath of charterholders.
Profile 1: Charterholders under 35 Years Old Talking about Their Career Journeys
A graduate's first job and early job progression can be an exciting but daunting period in their career. And we know from our interactions with students that they are keen to hear from people who been in a similar position and to learn from their experience. This collection videos will feature charterholders talking about their career journeys and the lessons they have learned, their experience with the CFA Program, and advice for people starting their career in financial services.
Profile 2: Charterholders Who Used the CFA Program to Move into a Career in Financial Services from Another Industry
This collection of videos will feature charterholders who completed the CFA Program as part of a strategy to pursue a career in financial services having previously worked in another industry. Maybe you worked in a shop, or were an engineer, or even a dancer. Whatever your background before embarking on a career in the investment industry, we'd love for you to share your story how you transitioned between careers, the challenges you had to overcome, what surprised you about working in the industry, your experience of completing the CFA Program and how it helped you make that transition. We'd love to hear your advice for others who are looking to switch to a financial career.
Profile 3: Charterholders Who Moved from the Investment Industry into Another Industry
This collection of videos will feature charterholders whose careers began in investment management but now work in another field. This could be joining the industries of AI or digital assets, taking up a role in PE or VC, starting your own business, or even leaving the investment industry altogether. Whatever your background, we'd love for you to share the story of your career and your advice for others looking to make the leap.
Profile 4: Charterholders Who Failed One or More of Their Exams on Their Journey to Earning the CFA Designation
It's no secret that the CFA Program is one of the most rigorous credentials to achieve. That is what makes it such a worthwhile investment of time and money. However, it does mean that many candidates fail at least one exam on their way to becoming a charterholder. Even our own CEO, Margaret Franklin, CFA, failed her CFA Level I exam after failing asleep in the exam room.
This collection of videos is designed to provide uplifting stories to candidates who have failed an exam or are worried about failing. We'd like to share your stories of not passing the CFA exams on your way to becoming a charterholder, what you learned from the failure, how you motivated yourself to keep going, and the advice you have for anybody who finds themselves in a similar situation.
Profile 5: Charterholders Working in ESG roles and Their Career Journeys
Demand for ESG specialists at financial institutions is only set to rise as regulators bring in new disclosure rules and companies recognize the social and commercial benefits creating ESG-compliant businesses. At the same time, it's clear that there is a gap when it comes to having enough ESG talent to meet the needs of the investment industry. It's no wonder than that more and more graduates are exploring careers in this field.
This collection of videos will feature charterholders working in ESG/sustainability roles who will share their experiences of pursuing a career in this area, the skills needed, and how the CFA Program helped their career.
