From FY21 business planning, to virtual sessions on the latest research, and sub-regional conversations with Marg Franklin on the strategy refresh, our aim is to gain and share important insights to successfully inform our future work together.
- Marg and the Leadership Team had a very successful meeting with the Board of Governors at their May meeting. As you know, for the past few months, we have been developing a new strategic plan that addresses today’s challenges and the future needs of our members/CFA® charterholders and the industry. The Board was unanimously supportive of the need for change and of our proposed strategic initiatives.
We are now in the next phase, which ends in July with final Board approval. Next will be detailed business and implementation plans, including adapting our operating model in how we work with societies. Please tune in to your local sub-regional calls with Marg and your PCRs to hear more.
- Separately, thank you to those of you who joined me, Gary Baker, CFA, Rebecca Fender, CFA, and Julia Orlich last week to learn more about research and resources available to societies on building relevance and earning trust. The latest Investor Trust Survey can be used to engage your members and local stakeholders. In case you missed it, you can view the recording and access the supporting resources here. The next events in the Virtual CFA Society Leadership Conference Series will be taking place in July and August. I encourage your participation as we will be providing deeper dives into key thought leadership pieces and our strategy refresh. Invitations will be emailed.
- Hopefully you are seeing our weekly update emails with the most relevant news impacting your society strategy and operations. Our Society Relations team puts a great deal of thought and effort into streamlining key messaging into this weekly update that should only take two minutes to read. I encourage everyone’s attention to these messages so as not to miss key deadlines approaching.
We are enormously impressed with the pivot societies have made to accommodate the new environment with innovative virtual programming. Please continue to leverage content produced by CFA Institute and other local societies.
Thank you,
Randi

The CFA Institute Research Foundation is providing CFA Institute members complimentary access to the Stocks, Bonds, Bills, and Inflation (SBBI) monthly dataset. Using data beginning in 1926, the SBBI dataset includes monthly, quarterly, and yearly total returns and yields for most of the major US asset classes: large-cap stocks, corporate bonds, government bonds of several maturities, and inflation.
The data will be updated on a monthly basis, and members can sign up to receive email notifications when the dataset has been refreshed.

CFA Institute Research Challenge Updates
The 15th season of the CFA Institute Research Challenge is launching in June, and we want to thank you for all your work in making the competition a resounding annual success. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent resource constraints, we have decided to cancel the in-person Regional and Global final events for the 2020-2021 Research Challenge. These events will operate virtually, in a similar fashion to this past season. We are also adding another round of competition, called the “Sub-Regional,” which is a long-term change.
