It’s time to nominate six new members for the US Society Advocacy Advisory Council (US SAAC.)
The US Society Advocacy Advisory Council (US SAAC) provides guidance to CFA Institute on the key policy issues that our staff prioritizes for policy outreach in Washington DC and Brussels Belgium, respectively.
The application period will be open 15 July–9 August 2019 and is accessible through the CFA Institute Volunteer Management system. We are looking for society leaders, advocacy volunteers, or society staff members who have direct experience with regulatory policy in their local markets, or who are vitally interested in the policy issues impacting investor protection, market transparency and fairness, and professionalism in the investment industry. Please see below for some background of the program; what’s new this year, and how to apply.
Background
The US SAAC helps set the annual priorities for CFA Institute’s policy work with Congress, the SEC, and other policy makers in the United States. Members provide valuable insights from a practitioner perspective into the work of CFA Institute staff. They also serve as ambassadors for communicating policy priorities and actions to their own society members and to other society leaders across the US and may also advise CFA Institute on the regulatory and other advocacy issues relevant in local jurisdictions within the US.
What’s new this year
- We are seeking volunteers or staff from both small and large market societies to provide balanced perspectives from across the profession. Each council member will serve a one-year term, renewable up to three years.
- We will be using the Volunteer Management system to gather nominations.
What is expected of Council members
- Attend one to two in-person meetings per year, typically one day each.
- Join one to two telephone meetings per year, typically 2 hours each.
- Represent the views of members and/or local society boards regarding relevant policy issues.
- Prepare for meetings by reviewing and evaluating materials provided in advance.
- Members are expected to make every effort to attend meetings and, if they are unable to do so, to ensure that their comments have been noted and can be viewed by the group prior to the meeting.
- Feed back to local society board / membership on policy priorities of the EU SAAC.
