The recent “4 Success Factors for Exam Success” video in the Inside the CFA Program series highlighted core study habits in the Learning Ecosystem (LES) that will help candidates prepare for their big day. But where do these suggestions come from?
Using data collected through the CFA Institute Learning Ecosystem (a digital study tool available to all registered candidates containing the curriculum, personalized study plans, games, message boards, and more), we have been able to identify four key study habits correlated with likelihood to pass the exam:
- answer 1,000 questions (including those on mock exams) correctly;
- spend at least 300 hours studying;
- progress through most of the curriculum material; and
- score 70% or higher on practice problems and mock exams and reach advanced profiency or higher in most topic areas covered by the curriculum.
How Are We Using This Information?
Now confident in the correlation between LES usage and pass rates, we are using the information to enhance the way we support candidates by working to increase awareness and adoption of the LES and, ultimately, increase pass rates. Efforts underway include
- deploying personalized communications based on individual LES usage (e.g., a reminder to take a mock exam if the candidate hasn’t already; reminders to use the LES if a candidate has not logged in by a certain point, etc.);
- launching the first installment in the Study Smart video series focused on the Adaptive Study Plan (future installments of the Study Smart series focused on community support within the LES and other platform features will be released in the coming months);
- incorporating actionable LES recommendations and best practices into existing registered candidate communications and marketing initiatives
We will continue to monitor LES usage trends and the impact of these new initiatives to ensure we are providing the necessary support to keep candidates on track. By using data-backed, behavioral triggers, we can reach out to candidates in the right way and at the right time both to increase usage of the LES and encourage candidates to make the most of this resource.
