Since its launch in November 2021, the FAJ Review Column by CFA Society Beijing has been a beacon of excellence, promoting high-quality research and values upheld by CFA Institute. Through technical paper review articles delivered in the local language, the column aims to break language barriers and foster discussion on technical research, thereby bridging markets and enriching the local investment community.
The FAJ Review Column represents a collaborative effort by over 40 volunteers from CFA Society Beijing, who diligently select, review, translate, and edit technical research articles from the Financial Analysts Journal (FAJ). These efforts ensure that the insights and findings of FAJ research are accessible to Chinese investment professionals, with a focus on local relevance.
To enhance the readability, the volunteer team customizes the featured FAJ papers to highlight the significance of research to the local market, inspiring readers to reflect more deeply about the topic. The team also takes the care to remodel content structure, writing strategy, and language expression, to better serve the appetite of Chinese readers.
The dedication of the volunteer team has resulted in the publication of forty-one volumes of review articles with over 1.2 million total views, showcasing their sustained professional efforts and commitment to the initiative's vision. In 2022, the Column produced a particularly influential review article titled "The Extraordinary Twenty Years: A Look into China's Capital Market Openness through the Lens of FAJ." This article, which presented nine FAJ China research papers in the context of China's financial market evolution, garnered significant attention, amassing half a million views, and received coverage in major media outlets, including the Financial News, the official media affiliated to the central bank.
The column has enhanced the Society’s authority and thought leadership within the broader community. As a result of the column, a new intellectual forum has been established, attracting an increasing number of industry leaders, regulators, and academics to engage and collaborate. FAJ's influence has also been further extended. Xueshi Bai, CFA, Head of Global Investment, Sunshine Asset Management, head of FAJ Review volunteer team, said,
"Under the recommendation of influential leaders from China's investment industry and academic circle, the column bridges the language gap and presents practice-driven research concretely to Chinese financial market practitioners, promoting CFA Institute's values with technical research delivered in Chinese as a carrier."
The success of the FAJ Review Column offers a blueprint for similar initiatives across the CFA Society network. By establishing mechanisms wherein teams of experts identify relevant content from FAJ and deliver it in local languages with added local relevance, other societies can replicate the impact achieved by CFA Society Beijing, thereby enriching their local investment communities and promoting CFA Institute's values globally.
CFA Society Beijing's FAJ Review Column exemplifies the power of collaboration and dedication in promoting knowledge sharing and fostering discussion within the investment community. As the initiative continues to thrive, its impact extends beyond borders, inspiring similar endeavors across the CFA Society network and beyond.
