Fostering a global volunteer community is integral to carrying out our shared mission, and we need your help to increase our pool of eligible graders!
We rely on our CFA charterholder volunteers to grade the Level III essay exams. Given the increase in the number of exam and grading sessions in the CBT environment, we are recruiting more volunteers interested in serving as graders.
Exam grading is a valuable opportunity for our members to share their expertise and give back to the profession. In a survey of our exam graders from the September session, 100% of the 165 survey respondents said they were satisfied with the grading experience.
Graders are also provided additional networking and educational opportunities as part of their engagement that they might not otherwise receive to help them learn more about CFA Institute initiatives and form a closer community with their fellow graders.
Details about upcoming grading sessions are as follows:
- Sessions will be held 11–17 March 2023 and 23–29 September 2023
- Graders must be charterholders, free of pending professional conduct investigations, and members in good standing with CFA Institute.
- Graders are volunteers and are not paid for their service.
- Graders must contribute five hours each day of grading after an initial seven-hour day for training and calibration.
- On the first one to two days, graders are trained and calibrated with their teams. These are synchronous events held during the Eastern Time (ET)-based day. After this, brief mandatory daily team meetings will be held at a specific time, but all other grading activities can take place at the grader’s convenience at any time within each 24-hour period.
- Those interested in volunteering can email Grader Support at graders@cfainstitute.org.
We are promoting this opportunity to our members through our Selections newsletter and the LinkedIn members' group.

We value our charterholders and are so appreciative of the time they give back to the profession. We simply can’t do this important work without their support and are grateful for any help you can provide with our recruitment efforts.
