CFA Society New Zealand has launched an ambassador network, which aims to support local members, CFA charterholders and candidates.
John Horrell, CFA, a volunteer at CFA Society New Zealand, has helped to lead this initiative, with the support of Kylee Goodwin, Executive Officer at CFA Society of New Zealand. John was inspired by his time in London when he was a member of CFA Society United Kingdom (UK).
He explained, “My initial engagement with CFA Society UK was through the launch of its mentorship program in 2018, where my mentor, Luca Dal Mas, helped shape my understanding of the finance industry beyond the walls of my employer. I went on to join its Ambassador program, acting as a representative for the local society. On returning to New Zealand, I joined CFA Society New Zealand and am delighted that we have been able to launch this initiative locally.”
The ambassador network will help CFA charterholders, Associate Members, CFA Program candidates and prospective candidates in their organisations by providing information; connecting people with the local society; building comradeship with members; and encouraging individuals to join networking events.
John added: “This journey with the CFA Society® community is what I refer to as “CFA Level 4”, where I continue to learn and expand my professional network with like-minded people in the finance industry.”
The local society identified motivated individuals within firms that employ a relatively large number CFA charterholders to form the ambassador group. Once off the ground, the initiative has had a lot of ongoing support from the ambassadors. These individuals are:
- Mia Prkusic from ANZ
- Beini Guo from PwC
- Devarsh Pathak from ASB
- Andrew Ranford from Craigs Investment Partners
- Barbara Salazar from NZ Super Fund
CFA Society New Zealand also had support and input from Marissa Charles, Volunteer Development Manager at CFA Society UK, and the CFA Institute team in Hong Kong, who provided guidance and documentation that assisted in the formation of this ambassador network.
