Demand for the Certificate in ESG Investing has grown significantly over the last two years, with increasing interest coming from universities.
Many professors we work with expressed that they wanted to highlight new ESG content in their own degree courses so they could demonstrate the connection with investment practice and signal this specialized knowledge to future employers of their graduates.
To solve for this, in late November we soft-launched a Certificate Recognition program for universities, a new way for institutions participating in our University Affiliation Program (UAP) to recognize the alignment of their ESG teaching with essential concepts covered in our Certificate in ESG Investing curriculum.
Through this program, which involves a simple amendment to universities’ existing affiliation, participating universities can complete a short online application, self-declaring alignment of the Certificate in ESG Investing content with the content of one of their degree programs. CFA Institute will then provide participating universities with a simple logo and strapline to indicate the university’s involvement with the recognition program. Participating professors will also be able to access the full Certificate in ESG Investing curriculum and other resources to support their ESG instruction.
This recognition program is intended to be simple and flexible. There is no requirement for professors to teach all topics covered in the Certificate in ESG Investing or for all students to sit for the exam. We do ask that professors be equipped to explain to students the connection between their degree studies and the certificate so they are aware of the opportunity to boost their CV by earning the Certificate in ESG Investing. To help them do so, we will provide a flyer and PowerPoint presentation to explain the rationale and benefits to affiliated universities and their students.
In our pilot with 58 affiliated universities, 12 completed the application and enrolled in the program. We plan to roll out the program to our 780 affiliated universities later this month.
