Submit your comments on the exposure draft of the CFA Institute Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Code for the investment profession in the United States and Canada by 4 September.
The DEI Code represents collaboration between CFA Institute and a working group of industry leaders to foster a commitment that will lead to greater inclusion of wider viewpoints from diverse talent, which should result in better investment outcomes and help create better working environments. The exposure draft is intended to elicit feedback on the proposed Principles outlined within the DEI Code from industry participants, regulators, and other stakeholders.
Why is CFA Institute developing a DEI Code?
DEI efforts are critical to the future of the investment industry. We recognize that a diversity of perspectives will lead to better investor outcomes; an inclusive investment industry will better serve our diverse society. Further, we recognize that an organization with an inclusive culture, awareness and education, and effective working relationships is a better place to work.
We know that sustainable change is never easy, and the investment industry has made attempts before to improve DEI without lasting impact. The Code is therefore metrics-based--not simply an aspirational designation.
We also understand that the investment industry is comprised of organizations that are all at different stages of their DEI journey. As a result, we’ve put together a detailed implementation guide with strategies specific to each Principle outlined within the DEI Code.
How is feedback gathered?
During the 60-day consultation period, which closes on 4 September 2021, any industry participant, whether they be an individual, group, or organization may submit comments using the response form on the website. Although the DEI Code will be launched in the US and Canada in 2021 as a starting point, feedback is welcome globally, so responders need not be from those two countries. We anticipate regionally differentiated versions of the DEI Code to be launched in 2022 and beyond.
How can societies get involved?
As well as submitting feedback as an individual or organization, societies can help to publicize the consultation period using the DEI Code Society Marketing Toolkit which includes banners, a social media tile and suggested messaging for emails and LinkedIn.
