CFA Society Colorado recently partnered with the University of Colorado Denver to organise an energy panel at the 3rd J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities International Symposium.
Hosted at the University of Colorado Denver’s business school, the event attracted around 140 academic researchers and industry practitioners from around the world to discuss current challenges and advancements in commodities research.
“The event helped to bridge awareness within the academic community about our organization. We were able to bring in a diverse group of speakers that brought a depth of knowledge about the current energy environment both globally and locally to our members and the other attendees,” explained Katy Greene, Board Secretary, CFA Society Colorado. “Partnering with the Business School was helpful as it broadened our reach to raise local awareness of CFA Society Colorado and enabled our members to access an event otherwise exclusive to select economic university faculty members.”
Due to the success of the panel, the Society has plans for further partnerships with universities. Katy said, “We see great value in partnering with our local universities to provide programming and give our members opportunities for in-depth learning beyond the classroom.”
However, this did not happen overnight. Many individuals, including Stephen Bennett, CFA, Programs Chair, CFA Society Colorado and Jian Yang, PhD, CFA, University of Colorado at Denver Finance Department Faculty worked very hard to secure this opportunity and organise the panel for this event. Katy’s advice to other CFA Societies hoping to build similar partnerships: “Have patience! We first started planting seeds with the idea for this panel over two years ago. It took on a few iterations before coming to fruition, but we are so happy with how the panel turned out.”
